Rick Metz is a native to Cincinnati. He has been building since the early age of five. He comes from a long line of woodcrafters. His love for designing and building furniture was ignited when he was given an opportunity to build custom pieces while employed by A.B. Closson's, a prominent furniture/ art dealer.
In 1986 Rick took a major step towards entrepreneurship. He became the sole proprietor of Metz Fine Furniture Repair. There his talents expanded in blending wood color stains and learning to correct problems from damaged wood or recreating a table corner enjoyed by one of his customer's pets. Rick became locally renowned for his talent and expertise. He found himself overwhelmed by business drawn from customer referrals.
In 1995, Rick decided to take a big risk and open an exclusive shop for chairs named The Chair Repair Shoppe. His method of repairing chairs was such a hit he had to recruit help for the overflow of business. It was not uncommon for there to be a backlog of 200 chairs or more in his shop. The Chair Repair Shoppe won a prestigious award by Cincinnati Magazine 'Best of Cincinnati 2000'.
Since the beginning of the Guitar Chair Rick's clientele has grown to include European and American music producers, musicians, recording studios, and guitar collectors. His Guitar Chairs have been sold all over the world including Australia, France, Canada, and the U.K. He was commissioned to make a chair to be given as a wedding gift to guitar legend Jeff Beck. On special request Rick made a rendition of a Punisher Bass played by Gene Simmons of KISS. After seeing this chair Gene Simmons personally put a photo of it on his website. Gene's positive comments led to other custom orders for the Punisher Bass Chair.
